Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Your team is your greatest asset&#8230;when you invest in them!\u00a0 I find it interesting that little time and money is spent on investing in growing the team in comparison to doctors learning new clinical skills!\u00a0 When in truth the team can be the greatest asset and advantage in determining the level of success in the dental practice.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S-Sh4oFNo4c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alignment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start by aligning the team!\u00a0 The more aligned the team is the more consistent the care and service.\u00a0 The owner doctor(s) start by creating clear core values for their practice.\u00a0 Take time to come up with your why\u2026what four core words in order of priority would you choose?\u00a0 This will help create clarity and unite the leadership team (doctors\/managers\/team leads).\u00a0 Utilize a consistent decision-making strategy to avoid fly by\u2019s which includes considering the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What\u2019s in the best interests of the patients, practice and team, not any one individual (including doctor)?<\/li>\n<li>What is practical and realistic based on current resources of people, time and money?<\/li>\n<li>What is the precedent being set?<\/li>\n<li>What is the value of implementing? Necessary to have a value of 8 or above on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being high.<\/li>\n<li>Will it support the 4 core values?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is necessary that the leadership team\u2019s message is consistent from all leadership team members.\u00a0 Otherwise it creates confusion and divides the team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The engagement part happens when you include your team in the discussions and decision making.\u00a0 When your team feels like their ideas are heard and considered they feel valued and respected.\u00a0 They become a creator versus a victim of their circumstances.\u00a0 Creators focus on what is positive, identify and change what isn\u2019t and own their results.\u00a0 Whereas victims complain, criticize, blame, gossip and compare.<\/p>\n<p>If you want the team to embrace a change ask for their suggestions and feedback on how to implement the change.\u00a0 If you want the team to have ownership give them authorship as well.\u00a0 A well-structured plan is well thought out and clearly defined.\u00a0 I teach teams the R.I.S.E. Implementation Process to help them work together to create a well-structured plan.\u00a0 R.I.S.E. is an acronym for Review, Implement, Sustain and Evaluate.<\/p>\n<p>Review \u2013 WIIFTP&amp;P&amp;T (What\u2019s In It For The Patient, Practice &amp; Team)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is it we are currently doing<\/li>\n<li>Does it support the doctor(s) Core Standards<\/li>\n<li>Is it a WOW?\n<ul>\n<li>What\u2019s working<\/li>\n<li>What&#8217;s not<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>WIIFTP&amp;P&amp;T \u2013 What\u2019s in it for the patients, practice and team if we make the change<\/li>\n<li>It is important for the value\/benefits to rate an 8 or above on scale of 1 to 10 or it is difficult to sustain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Implement \u2013 SOP \u2013 Standard Operating Procedures<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are we going to change\n<ul>\n<li>What area(s) do you want to grow?\u00a0 Prioritize if you have several areas.\u00a0 Start with the area that will make the biggest impact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Who is going to do it<\/li>\n<li>Who are we going to do it for<\/li>\n<li>When are we going to do it \u2013 including time, sequence and flow\n<ul>\n<li>It is important to actually schedule time to fit it in to your day, week, month, and year or it won\u2019t happen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Where are we going do it \u2013 very specific location<\/li>\n<li>Why are we going to do it\n<ul>\n<li>This is the most important part to successfully sustain growth.\u00a0 What is it that will motivate you to continue to do the new behavior when you don\u2019t feel like it or you are pressed for time.<\/li>\n<li>It has to be a big enough why (8 to 10) \u2013 WIIFTP&amp;P&amp;T if we make the change \u2013 there must always be something in it for the team to sustain the change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>How are we going do it\n<ul>\n<li>Practice verbal skills<\/li>\n<li>Practice role playing \u2013 yes I know it\u2019s weird but it\u2019s effective<\/li>\n<li>Practice the entire physical walk through \u2013 never test it out for the first time on a patient<\/li>\n<li>Clearly spell out the attitude, mindset and action steps will you need to take to be able to succeed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Define process\n<ul>\n<li>Create standard operating procedures and put in a SOP Manual<\/li>\n<li>Schedule the roll out date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sustain \u2013 Form Habits<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In order to sustain a new change it is important for the new change to become a habit<\/li>\n<li>Be precise and consistent and realistic to make the change become a habit much sooner\n<ul>\n<li>Same sequence and steps for every team member every time\n<ul>\n<li>5 out of 5 times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It takes a range of anywhere between 18-254 days\u00a0 to form a habit depending on the difficulty with the average being 66 days\n<ul>\n<li>Until it becomes a habit it will feel awkward and uncomfortable<\/li>\n<li>Give any new change at least 60 days to get comfortable before considering any changes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Support the change positively in words, actions and attitude<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Evaluate \u2013 Reflect\/Diagnose<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the results\n<ul>\n<li>Were we able to implement<\/li>\n<li>If not, why not<\/li>\n<li>Is the process still working effectively<\/li>\n<li>If not, what is the value and benefits in a change<\/li>\n<li>What part is still working what needs to change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Investing time and energy in getting your team aligned and engaged are the first steps in making your team your greatest asset!
