{"id":921,"date":"2021-01-01T06:25:53","date_gmt":"2021-01-01T06:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.practicesolutionsinc.net\/blog\/?p=921"},"modified":"2021-01-01T14:38:28","modified_gmt":"2021-01-01T14:38:28","slug":"leave-c-r-p-door","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.practicesolutionsinc.net\/blog\/2021\/01\/leave-c-r-p-door\/","title":{"rendered":"Leave Your C.R.A.P. at the Door!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Leave Your C.R.A.P. at The Door!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Happy New Year!\u00a0 Usually, I like to start the year focusing on how to improve and grow.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know about you, but I would be thrilled with just getting back to the old norm in 2021!\u00a0 The pandemic was like a remote control that put us on pause and now it is time to hit play!<\/p>\n<p>The uncertainty of the pandemic, election, shutdowns, etc.\u2026the list goes on and on has been an enormous weight we have all carried.\u00a0 Which over time lowers our level of tolerance and heightens our level of insensitivity.\u00a0 The media including social media has played an enormous role in fueling negativity.\u00a0 So many people with keyboard courage.\u00a0 Strike that; keyboard cowardice.<\/p>\n<p>We continuously hear our politicians talking about uniting and becoming one again.\u00a0 Yet bipartisan behaviors continue to happen on both sides.\u00a0 I remember my dad, Clem Miller, chiding me about being to pro for one party.\u00a0 He believed you must take everything you hear regarding politicians with a grain of salt.\u00a0 Truths are manipulated in both parties.\u00a0 He simplified it by comparing Democrats and Republicans to the Looney Tunes characters, Ralph the wolf and Sam the sheep dog.\u00a0 They would fight each other all day long.\u00a0 However, once they clocked out for the day, they would go back to being friends.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5VYtiyjqx7E\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5VYtiyjqx7E<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t control what others do but we can control what we do.\u00a0 Our actions will determine our outcome.\u00a0 It is time to leave the 2020 C.R.A.P. at the door and move on to a more positive and prosperous 2021!<\/p>\n<p>C.R.A.P. is an acronym for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Criticism<\/li>\n<li>Rudeness<\/li>\n<li>Assumptions<\/li>\n<li>Problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C9bHPT5NuAo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criticism<\/strong> &#8211; The dictionary defines criticism as <em>the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on<strong> perceived <\/strong>faults or mistakes<\/em>.\u00a0 We have the right to have our own opinion and so does everyone else.\u00a0 Make a commitment to start 2021 with respecting other people\u2019s opinions.\u00a0 We show respect by listening openly to understand and even consider their point of view.\u00a0 Start out the conversation by focusing on what you do agree on.\u00a0 Be mindful of your words, tone, body language and energy.\u00a0 Our words make up only 7% of how others perceive us.\u00a0 Body language is 55% and tone of voice is 38%.\u00a0 When you approach someone come with an energy and mindset of care and curiosity versus judgment and blame.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rudeness<\/strong> &#8211; The dictionary defines rudeness as <em>behaving inconsiderately, aggressively or deliberately offensively.\u00a0 <\/em>Consider how your words, body language and tone can convey perceptions of rude behaviors.\u00a0 Be polite by being thoughtful of the other person\u2019s feelings.\u00a0 Simple words, please and thank you are powerful.\u00a0 Ask questions to understand and acknowledge responses.\u00a0 Before speaking always ask yourself, how can I say what I need to say while still respecting how I make the other person feel.\u00a0 Avoid flippant sarcastic remarks like <em>whatever<\/em> which lessen the seriousness.\u00a0 Address mistakes with kindness and compassion.\u00a0 Body language such as rolling of the eyes or frustrating sighs are dismissive actions.\u00a0 Curse words and name calling are offensive and <strong>never<\/strong> <strong>ever <\/strong>appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>I love to use the acronym T.H.I.N.K. as my filter before I speak.\u00a0 It helps me communicate positively and effectively and avoid conversations that require and apology later.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>T- is it true<\/li>\n<li>H \u2013 is it helpful<\/li>\n<li>I \u2013 is it inspiring<\/li>\n<li>N \u2013 is it necessary<\/li>\n<li>K \u2013 is it kind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Assumptions<\/strong> \u2013 The dictionary defines assumption as a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof.\u00a0 False assumptions run rampant and are most often negative.\u00a0 Here is a three-letter word that will resolve assumptions\u2026<strong>ASK!<\/strong> Stop assuming and ask questions to understand.\u00a0 When you get that twinge in your gut and you think\u2026 \u201cHmmm\u2026I wonder what they meant by that?\u201d or you find yourself saying \u201cI think they meant this\u201d &#8211; you don\u2019t know! Stop yourself immediately from wondering and speculating, go directly to the person and ASK! You will be surprised how many of your assumptions are incorrect after you hear their response.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Problems \u2013 <\/strong>The dictionary defines problem as <em>a matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcome.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The average person has 60,000 thoughts a day.\u00a0 95% are redundant\u2026the same thought we had yesterday is the same as today and tomorrow.\u00a0 80% are negative unless we are mindful.\u00a0 Negative thinking can often make a mountain out of a mole hill.\u00a0 Many of our problems our self-induced by the words we use to describe a situation or person.\u00a0 Words that label such as hard, difficult, and stressful generate those same emotions.\u00a0 For example, we review the schedule at the morning huddle and say it\u2019s going to be difficult and stressful day.\u00a0 We will look for things to reinforce our beliefs and it will become a difficult and stressful day.\u00a0 Instead use the word interesting to describe a person or situation.\u00a0 Interesting is a neutral word.\u00a0 Be a creator of your day and replace negative problem thoughts with positive actions that resolve the problem. \u00a0Leave your C.R.A.P. at the door and make 2021 your best year yet!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leave Your C.R.A.P. at The Door!
